Very interesting and informative book on the timely topic of returning combat veterans dealing with co-occurring disorders, including alcohol and other drug abuse together with depression, PTSD and contemplation of suicide. The author tells the stories of his experiences as a suicide crisis intervention counselor, and ties those stories to useful information about the signs of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and substance abuse, and identifies helpful resources for crisis situations and longer term treatments.

Recommended reading for alcohol and other drug counselors as the population of returning combat veterans increases, as well as for counselors working with general population clients dealing with co-occurring disorders.
