  RAS eligible for MAC certification  
 
 

The nation's premier membership organization for addiction professionals, NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals - with nearly 11,000 members and 46 state affiliates - serves addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals, who specialize in addiction prevention, treatment and education. Professionals with the nationally-accredited Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) credential, who also hold a Masters degree - including the Masters or Doctorate (Dr.AD) degree from Breining Institute - are eligible to test for the NAADAC National Certification Commission's Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) certification.

  Why MAC certification?  
 

• NAADAC and its MAC credential are recognized throughout the United States
• The MAC is a recognized advanced-degree credential, that RAS professionals with experience are eligible to obtain
 

 
     
 
  MAC eligibility  
 

• Current certification as an RAS.
Masters Degree in the healing arts or related field (includes MA or Doctorate (Dr.AD) in Addictive Disorders degrees from Breining Institute) with in-depth subjects applicable to the alcoholism and drug abuse treatment arena.
500 contact hours of specific alcoholism and drug abuse counseling training (within the degree or elsewhere).
Three years full-time or 6,000 hours of supervised experience, two years or 4,000 hours of which must be post master's degree award.
Passing score on the national examination for the MAC
