We appreciate each member's professional expertise and participation in this important contribution toward counselor competency.

Top Educational Institutions - over 100 schools

Candidates for the multiple-choice, computer-administered Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) examination have received their qualifying education from over 100 educational institutions located throughout the United States and Canada. To put the candidates on equal footing, all exam questions are taken from information contained within The Addiction Professional: Manual for Counselor Competency, a comprehensive study guide provided to each RAS exam candidate, and is supplemented with a free On-line Tutorial - prepared by Breining Institute - that reviews the Manual and the current testing areas.

2009 pass rate for first-time test takers: 89.7%
The RAS Exam passing rate for first-time test takers in 2009 was 89.7%, and the overall pass rate in 2009 was at an all time high of 80.9% (up from 72.3% in 2008, and 68.5% in 2007).

The high pass rate is attributed to the commitment of educational institutions providing the relevant preparatory education, use of the Manual, and exam candidates studying the Manual with the on-line Tutorial.

Which are the top providers of qualifying education? Each of the educational institutions listed below graduated students who have qualified to take the RAS examination. Congratulations to these schools and to their students!
